Ah, love. It's in the air, as they say. Maybe that's because it's Friday and who doesn't love the weekend? Or maybe it's because Valentine's Day is just a week away!
Either way, we're feelin' the love and want you to feel it, too. So we've rounded up a few ways to enjoy Valentine's Day all week long (Valentine's Week!) right here in Oxford, Ohio. And because it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to show people you love them, these events are not only gonna be fun to attend but they also won't break the bank.
Even if you're all about the traditional gifts like flowers and chocolate (I never turn down chocolate, personally) there's something extra special about going out and experiencing something new with your loved ones. So check out the list below and get to memory-making with your sweethearts!
Where: Kramer Elementary School (400 W. Sycamore St.)
When: Friday, Feb. 8 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Who said your little gals and guys can't enjoy Valentine's Day? The Oxford Parks and Recreation Department is once again throwing their Bows and Bowties Dance, where parents can take their little ones out for a night to remember. There will be a DJ, light food and refreshments, and a gift for each child. It'll be the perfect event to create lifelong memories with your family so dress snazzy and prepare to dance the night away!
The dance is TONIGHT (Friday, Feb. 8) but it's not too late to register, which you can do here.
Where: You're Fired (6 N. Beech St.)
When: Saturday, Feb. 9 | Wed, Feb. 13 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Valentine's Day has spawned a super fun bonus holiday to celebrate all the gal pals in your life, appropriately titled Galentine's Day. (Not sold on the idea? Watch the Parks and Rec "Galentine's Day" episode in season 2 and you'll soon be singing a different tune.) This unofficial holiday takes place the day before Valentine's Day on Feb. 13, but you can celebrate it whenever and however you want. We suggest the Galentine's Day events at You're Fired, taking place on Feb. 9 and then again on Feb. 13th. For just $12/person you can enjoy chocolate and treats and an evening of painting pottery with all of your favorite ladies.
Check out their calendar here to register for the event. Hurry while there are still spots left!
Where: Goggin (610 S. Oak St.)
When: Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3:00 pm | Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 pm
Lace up your skates with your little ones and hit the ice at Goggin! The Valentine's Skate is only $7 to get in and then your skate rentals are free.
For an 18 and up only date night at Goggin, there's a Hip Hop Moonlight Skate on Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 pm. It's free to get in if you have a Miami ID and the skate rental is only $3.50. A night spent skating around the rink while holding hands sounds pretty darn romantic to me. Who cares if it's after Valentine's Day? A sweet date night on the ice is always in season.
Where: O Pub (10 W. Park Place)
When: Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9:00 pm
By now you probably know that O Pub regularly throws themed trivia nights, complete with drink specials, prizes, and someone getting so excited about knowing an answer that they accidentally yell it out for all the other teams to hear. (I am this person.) This month is no exception thanks to a special Valentine's Day trivia THIS Sunday, Feb. 10. Bring your partner or just your friends who you love a whole lot, make a lovey-dovey team name, and get to trivia-ing!
We recommend getting there when the doors open at 8:00 so you can secure seats with your team.
Where: Hueston Woods Nature Center (6301 Park Office Rd, College Corner)
When: Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 pm
Hueston Woods has a whole lineup of nature programs every month. This month, to celebrate Valentine's Day, they've added a Sweethearts Stroll which has a cute name and an even cuter purpose: to get you and your loved ones walking around the great outdoors together! Spend a peaceful afternoon strolling through a scenic forest, enjoying the sights and calming sounds of nature. It'll be the perfect activity to enjoy either before or after lunch. We recommend bringing a picnic so that after your stroll you can find a spot and enjoy a romantic meal together. Dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes!
This last date suggestion is a classic: good ol' dinner and drinks! Oxford has several restaurants with that dimly-lit romantic atmosphere you may be looking for when it comes to a special Valentine's' date. Try Paesano's Pasta House (308 S. Campus Ave.) for delicious plates of pasta with homemade sauce, or MIA Restaurant and Studio (77 S. Main St.) for super sweet specialty cocktails and signature steaks. And of course there's always the Cru Gastro Lounge (105 W. Spring St.) for small plates, a huge selection of wine, and a supremely cozy space.
