Welcome to Oxford, Ohio 2018

Welcome to Oxford, Ohio! We're so excited you're here to enjoy our small but mighty town. Are you an incoming Miami University student? A new resident who's moved here with family? A longtime townie or a visitor just passing through? No matter why you're here or where you're coming from, Enjoy Oxford is here to welcome you and make you feel at home.

If you're feeling the town buzzing with energy right now it's because summer is coming to a rapid end and students are moving in. Classes are starting and already the air is feeling slightly autumnal. To put it simply: this time of year is exciting! And there are plenty of events around town in the next coming weeks to help us celebrate our neighbors and friends, old and new. Check out our list below and we'll see you around town!

(Psst! Check out our online community calendar for even more events.)

First Year Takeover

When: Saturday, August 25th, 9:00AM - 12:00PM

Where: Uptown Park (2 East High Street)

It's time to welcome First Year students into the Oxford community with the First Year Takeover, a FREE scavenger hunt all around uptown Oxford! Join a team of 2 - 4 fellow students and meet uptown anywhere between 9AM - 11AM. Whether you're an incoming freshmen or a first year grad student, this scavenger hunt is for YOU. What better way to get acquainted with your new home than to run around looking for the people, places, and things that make Oxford unique?

First, stop by the Enjoy Oxford cart (it looks like a little red ice cream cart) in the uptown park to receive your list of clues. Then you'll have until noon to find everything on your list. Make sure to take photos of everything you find as proof! Post your pictures to Instagram using the hashtag #FYTakeover2018.

Once you're done stop back by the cart uptown and get your prizes in the form of Oxford swag.

Some sample clues:
- find the mayor
- find a Greek Organization brick around the park
- find a business that shares its space with their pets

Happy hunting!

Uptown Farmers Market

When: Saturday, August 25th, 8:00AM - 12:00PM (And every Saturday at 9AM through autumn. Winter hours begin in December)

Where: Uptown Oxford (2 East High Street)

Whenever you find the heart of a town, you will likely also find the local farmers market. Oxford, Ohio is no exception! Every Saturday our bustling market sets up just behind the Memorial Park in our historic uptown district, at the intersection of Main and High Street. Come enjoy an array of locally grown produce and food products (think baked goods, salsa, jams) as well as handmade decor, jewelry, and more. There are also hot food vendors so you can have breakfast right at the market while you shop.

Pick up some fresh flowers, pet a dog (or two or three), and enjoy our Saturday morning farmers market year-round. Seasonal hours can be found on the official market website here.

Yoga in the Park

When: Saturday, August 25th, 9:00AM - 10:00AM (And every Saturday through September)

Where: Uptown Park, under the pavilion (2 East High Street)

Bring a water bottle and yoga mat and welcome the weekend with an invigorating (and FREE) yoga session in the park. No experience is needed because these outdoor yoga classes are made for participants of all skill levels.

When you're done sweating it out on the mat, stop by the farmers market which will be taking place mere yards away.

Shakespeare in the Park - Julius Caesar

When: Saturday, August 28th, 7:00PM - 8:00PM

Where: Uptown Park (2 East High Street)

Who doesn't love theatre in the park on a warm summer night? We teamed up with the Oxford Community Arts Center to bring the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company back to Oxford for a FREE play in the uptown park to satisfy all of your outdoor thespian needs. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, sit back and relax, because #CincyShakes will be giving an incredibly fun performance of Julius Caesar you won't want to miss.

Rain location: Oxford Community Arts Center (10 S. College Ave)
