Empty Windows + Paint = A Splash of Color in Oxford, Ohio

What better way to spend a lazy, hazy summer day in Oxford, Ohio than a stroll through our brick-lined, historic uptown? If you've got some ice cream in your hand then all the better! But empty storefronts can immediately put a damper on any window shopping you may have wanted to add to your summertime itinerary.

Here in Oxford we’re proud of our locally owned businesses, but sometimes the transition from a business closing its doors to a new one moving in can take just a wee bit longer than we’d like. Fortunately, we at Enjoy Oxford realized that we don't have to stare at dark, deserted storefront windows in the meantime! All that glass is like a blank canvas just waiting for something creative to be done with it. That's why we put out a call for artists, whether they be teachers or students, professionals or hobbyists, and offered them each a stipend to decorate our empty uptown windows with colorfully painted murals. After choosing five artists and having them pick which windows they'd like to paint, we set them loose with paint brushes in hand to make their marks all up and down High Street.

Below are the finished murals, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Now a slow stroll through uptown means taking a tour through an outdoor gallery where the works of art are done by your fellow Oxford locals.
